What is the Hurricane cocktail recipe?
If you are a fan of tropical fruit and a healthy slug of booze, then the Hurricane is probably for you. Subtle and complex it is not but its been knocking around since the 1940’s and let’s face it, sometimes you just need a big, fruity cocktail to knock back.
Served in the signature hurricane glass (which doesn’t get many outings across the bar) it’s made from two types of rum then a host of fruit and sugar syrup. Basically, it’s the sort of cocktail you might find in a punch bowl at a BBQ over the summer.
This all said, we might be coming across as negative…not our intention at all. The Hurricane is super tasty if you like a sweet, fruity hit to the palate with a good backbone of booze.

Why We Love The Hurricane Cocktail Recipe?
The Hurricane might not be for all tastes but if you like it fruity…and STRONG you are in for a treat. The Hurricane supposedly came to life in 1940’s New Orleans. Invented at Pat O’Brian’s bar, it was the consequence of rum being relatively easy to procure versus the more popular and widespread whisky. Some experimentation with available ingredients brought the Hurricane to the world.
By modern standards, the recipe is not particularly refined and it’s likely that the rum of the time was pretty harsh, which explains the multitude of juices and syrups in there to mask the flavour of the rum.
Be warned, this is super boozy and not for the faint-hearted.
