What is a Coconut Daiquiri?

Who doesn’t love a Daiquiri?

That winning combination of rum and lime has been charming drinkers since its creation in the late 1800s.

Thought to have been invented in the mining town of Daiquiri (hence the name, get it?) in Cuba, the Daiquiri is a staple cocktail at most bars. It’s also one of the first cocktails any budding bartender should learn.

Why we love the Daiquiri? It’s simplicity means it’s easy to adapt.

Our favourite twist is this Coconut Rum Daiquiri.

Easy to make, but totally unique, it’s a hit whenever we serve it to friends and guests. Let’s dive in and make it.

Did You Know?

June 19th is National Daiquiri Day.

The original Daiquiri recipe became popular throughout the 1940s as rationing made other spirits like vodka and whisky less readily available.

Rum, however, was easy to source in comparison, leading to the wave of tiki drinks made with rum which became trendy after WWII.

How to make the Coconut Daiquiri Recipe

Coconut Daiquiri Ingredients

50ml Rum

25ml Coconut Water

25ml Fresh Lime Juice

15ml Sugar Syrup

Add the rum, coconut water, lime juice and sugar to a shaker.

Top the cocktail shaker with cubed ice. Shake well for 30 seconds.

Fine strain the mix into a hi-ball or rocks glass.

Expert Tip

You’ll want to opt for fresh lime if you possibly can. This Daiquiri recipe lives or dies by how well you can capture that zingy, refreshing taste.

If you love the coconut flavour, why not try making your own flavoured syrup with coconut infused?

Similarly, we’d recommend a premium white rum for this cocktail recipe.

Our top recommendation would be Plantation 3 Star, but if you can’t get your hands on this Diplomático Planas or Duppy White are great options.

What to drink after a Coconut Daiquiri?

We doubt anyone visiting this page will not have tried the classic Daiquiri recipe, but even if you have, it’s always worth revisiting.

If you’re looking for fruity Daiquiri variations, we recently featured a Spiced Pineapple Daiquiri in our cocktail discovery box.

Or if you’re looking for a punchy rum cocktail, the Zombie or a Mai Tai are a great place to start.
