CINNAMON MEZCAL SOUR RECIPE INGREDIENTS

50ml Mezcal
7.5ml Simple Syrup
10ml Cinnamon Syrup or 1 teaspoon Cinnamon powder
25ml Lemon Juice
1 Egg White or 3 Dashes Ms Better’s Bitters

HOW TO MAKE A CINNAMON MEZCAL SOUR

Add the Mezcal, Syrup, and Lemon Juice into a shaker.

It’s up to you which Mezcal you use; we like Pensador from Southern Oaxaca.

Next, add the egg white, or if you’re not up for using egg, a foamer like Ms. Better’s Bitters is a great vegan alternative.

Mix in the Cinnamon syrup or Cinnamon powder.

Add cubed ice and shake hard for 30 seconds and pour into a chilled Coupe glass.

Sours are classically served in a Rocks glass, so this will also work well.

GARNISH

Cinnamon Stick or Apple Fan

TELL US ABOUT THE CINNAMON MEZCAL SOUR

Sour cocktails date back to the 1860s when savvy bartenders experimented with lemon and sugar to balance the flavour of the cocktails of the time.

These were a mix of spirit, water, and bitters – much like the Old Fashioned cocktail of today.

What is Mezcal?

Fields of maguey plant, of which Agave is a type, which is used in Mezcal production. Shot by Dylan Freedom

Mezcal is a distilled liquid made from any type of maguey plant.

What is the different between Tequila and Mezcal?

Tequila can only be made using Agave, which is a type of maguey. To be classified as Tequila it must also be produced within certain areas of Mexico.

Therefore, Tequila is a type of Mezcal. All Tequilas are Mezcals, whereas not all Mezcals are Tequilas. Confused yet?

Mezcal is less restricted in the types of maguey used in production, and geographically. This has led to a wide range of available Mezcals, all with different variations and flavour combinations.

Mezcal is growing in popularity – sales are expected to increase by 18% by the end of 2022.
